Making Your Own Antique Cameos

Looking fashionable need not be expensive. In today's world, it is important that one looks good and presentable especially if one is looking for a job or a career. That does not mean that you have to shell out hundreds of dollars for unique and expensive fashion accessories that you would only be using once or twice during your lifetime. With that said, one should not look shabbily at all.

One way to do so is by creating one's fashion accessories. Not only is making fashion accessories a great way to save, it also allows you to be unique and completely different from others.

New Fashion Trends

One of the popular fashion accessories that is making comeback are the cameo with clear glass cabochons.

Cameos are small brooches that contain small replicas of the owner's portrait carved in different materials such as pearls, corals or agate.

As antique or vintage cameos are quite expensive, only a few actually wear them and most of the cameos are heirloom pieces. Many of the cameos feature a pin and a pendant bale so one can actually wear one as a necklace or pin it on their clothes.

Creating Your Own Cameo Brooches

Nowadays, many suppliers offercameo cabochon wholesale so one can buy by the bulk, which is relatively much cheaper than having to buy only a single piece

In addition, if you are planning to give something this Christmas, then these cameos are perfect as the different cabochon gives each cameo a timeless and elegant appeal to it.

Size and design also differs so one can choose from round shape cabochon to oval, heart or square.

Depending on the shape of the cameo that you choose, you can also pair it with the appropriate setting. The most popular setting is the bezel setting as it safely secures the cameo and protects it from accidental nicks and dirt from constant wear and tear.

The next step would be purchasing your polymer clay. Polymer clays are easier to carve and readily available in just about any art supplies. You can fashion the clay to your own portrait or whatever theme that you want.

Bake the cameo for 45 minutes in a pre-heated oven with 325 degree F. Let the cameo cool and then paint it using acrylic paints and seal it with a polymer glaze. You can then attach the cameo to your cabochon. There are several necklaces that you can pair your new cameo or you can use a ribbon to tie it around your neck or silk cloth. Wear the cameo interchangeably by wearing it as part of your daily accessories or reserved it for special events.
